Combatants for Peace. Have you heard about it?
I just read about an organization you might find interesting. You can click on the names to learn more about the founders.
Combatants for Peace is an Israeli-Palestinian non-governmental organization and an egalitarian, bi-national, grassroots movement committed to nonviolent action against the Israeli occupation and all forms of violence in Israel and the Palestinian territories. The movement was formed in 2006 by Palestinians and Israelis who had taken an active role in the cycle of violence and decided to work together to promote a peaceful solution through nonviolent action. It has twice been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize (2017, 2018).
Tuly Flint is the General Coordinator of Combatants for Peace in Israel and the highest ranking former officer to participate in the movement. According to Tuly, “Working with Palestinian former fighters/combatants is healing my heart. For me, the movement is a bridge between being a combat fighter and being a man of equality and peace.”
Sulaiman Khatib helped to found Combatants for Peace after spending over ten years in Israeli prisons for assaulting an Israeli soldier. Sulaiman writes, “Today, I stand with my brothers and sisters, both Palestinian and Israeli. I know there is a way forward to freedom and life for everyone in our beloved homeland; it takes only a little bit of forgiveness and a small amount of love. Together, we can bring peace, freedom, and secure human rights for all.”
